About the Position
Restoration and Empowerment for Social Transition Centres Mississauga, Brampton, Caledon
● Participate actively in Board meetings and committee work (regular attendance)
● Preparation for, and proactive response/contribution to, all meeting agendas
● Ongoing understanding, commitment to, and application of R.E.S.T.'s principles, mission, and programs
● Apply personal talent/experience/specialized skill set(s) to Board mandates, business, and activities
● Involvement in, and stewardship of, R.E.S.T's not-for-profit financial affairs, governance, and reporting obligations
● Monitoring and adherence to all legal/regulatory requirements
● Engagement in strategic planning (short and long term objectives, ways and means to realize these)
● Ambassadorship in Peel region communities as a leader of R.E.S.T.

● Understanding of, and commitment to, the role/mission of R.E.S.T. in Peel region
● Understanding and appreciation that R.E.S.T. is a Christian faith-based organization
● Awareness of the youth issues that R.E.S.T. addresses (homelessness, poverty, discrimination, education, health and wellness, community support, etc.)
● Excellent oral/written communication and organizational skills (adhere to meeting/assignments, their dates/deadlines)
● Commitment to a MINIMUM term on the Board of 12 MONTHS (further commitment encouraged)
● Committed and empathetic towards inclusiveness and diversity
● Friendly and engaging, particularly with youth (solid listening/conversational skills a definite asset)
● Solid knowledge of the communities that R.E.S.T. serves, notably resources for youth (professional 'network' and other connections welcome)
● Ability to participate/collaborate in a team setting, plus work independently
● Specialized professional training/expertise (legal, financial, human resources, youth counselling, etc.) is a welcome asset
● Creativity (ability to 'think outside the box')
● Attendance at orientation/training/ongoing board development sessions are mandatory

PLEASE NOTE: Because the role entails constant interaction with youth (minors), a satisfactory 'Police Vulnerable Sector Check' is a prerequisite for this 'position' (will be discussed at an early stage of the applicant screening process)
