About the Position

● Indus Community Services (Indus) invites applications from interested candidates to serve on its Board of Directors. Indus seeks visionary individuals from all backgrounds to contribute to its new mission and implementation of its strategic plan.

● Elections of Directors to fill vacancies on the Board will take place at the Annual General Meeting (AGM), scheduled for June 27th, 2019.

● Board members typically assume a leadership role in their oversight of the not-for-profit, while bringing to the table a mix of talent, ability, particular skills, and valuable experience. These qualities are often most effective on the committee work that directors engage in.

● ligible candidates need to have membership in Indus by MARCH 15, 2019, and should be prepared to serve on the Board for a term of 3 years.

● Commit to the Vision, Mission and Guiding Values of Indus, and adhere to its policies and procedures
● Experience (expertise) in at least one of the following areas: Finance & Accounting, Governance, Seniors Housing Development, Healthcare, Public Relations and Communications, Marketing and Fundraising, Human Services
● Commitment and ability to participate in the on-going development and implementation of the organization's strategic plan
● Attend all monthly Board meetings and the AGM, PLUS, work actively on at least 2 committees of the Board
● Have strong oral/written communication skills and fluency in English (multilingual applicants welcome)
● Have previous experience leading business or social organizations, and/or serving on a corporate board (especially not-for-profit/charity) in Canada
● Have a strong understanding of, and commitment to, the needs of the communities the organization serves
● Integrity and commitment to represent the best interests of the organization


Eligibility requirements:

1. To be eligible, all applicants must be, or become, a MEMBER of Indus as of March 15th, 2019
2. Minimum age for Board membership - 18
3. Term of volunteer engagement as a Board member - 3 years
4. Applicants should be prepared to undergo (or provide) a satisfactory 'Police Vulnerable Sector Check'
Orientation and Training will be provided to successful candidates.
