About the Position
The Story Garden Sheridan Centre, 2225 Erin Mills Parkway, Mississauga, ON, Canada Mississauga, Brampton
The 'Grandpals Project' will have seniors volunteering in the following ways:

I. Story Circles (Tuesday (weekly) from 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm)
- Seniors will share stories/experiences with children based on a theme (or object) suggested by the session facilitator
- Seniors also will have the opportunity to lead 'story circle' sessions
II. Story Keepers (Wednesday (weekly) from 1 - 4 pm)
- Seniors will document/share their stories/experiences through scrapbooking
III. 'Bridging the Gap' (Tuesday (weekly) from 3 - 5 pm)
- Seniors will reciprocate with teens (who will acquaint seniors with 'social media') by sharing 'pre-technology' games/crafts that remembers the 'old ways' and shows that they're still fun!

TEA PARTIES (April 26; June 21; October 25; December 13; February 21)
- A gathering over tea by seniors and local families with young children to socialize, with an opportunity to share stories, experiences, music

****** LEADERSHIP volunteering roles include:
> 'Recruiters' (who will reach into the seniors' communities (associations, residences, etc.) to inform, invite, and secure participation by seniors)
> 'Activity Coordinators' (who will organize seniors and their transport to/from their residences)
> Seniors to help coordinate/provide language interpretation, if needed (in keeping with 'diversity and inclusiveness')
> Seniors to plan/coordinate/sustain marketing/promotion of the weekly sessions ('get the word out')
> Seniors to lead delivery of the weekly Project sessions and 'tea party' events

● Minimum age - 55
● Solid oral/written English communication skills
● Prior programming/event leadership/planning experience welcome
● Friendly, engaging, confident in interaction with volunteers, children (and teen youth), and other Project participants
● Fluency in another language welcome
● Organized, committed to abide by Project schedule(s)
● Willingness to assume a lead role as part of a team, plus independently contribute
'Grandpals Project' orientation/training will be arranged, having regard to your specific role. As a 'lead', you may have an opportunity to assist in training development/implementation.
