The SAS Treasurer is an executive and voting member of the SAS Board of Directors, and is appointed in a manner consistent with the By-laws of the organization. SAS's Treasurer works collaboratively with the SAS President, the Executive Committee, the Board of Directors, staff, and volunteers to support the SAS Board in achieving its governance and fiduciary responsibilities. In those capacities, the Treasurer attends all regularly and exceptional Board and Executive meetings as required.

The Treasurer has custody of the funds and securities of the Corporation, and the Treasurer is responsible and accountable for:
● The development of high level financial policies and their review by the Board
● The preparation of the annual budget and its presentation to the Board for review
● The preparation of appropriate monthly financial statements (Income Statements and Balance Sheets) for review by the Board
● Preparation and presentation of the annual financial report to the Board and for the Auditor
● Meeting with the external Auditor annually, or more often if needed, to identify any financial control and record keeping problems or deficiencies and overseeing action is taken to address them
● Ensuring that the Board regularly monitors the organization's financial performance and alerting the Board to any important discrepancies between budgeted and actual figures
● Ensuring the organization maintains the appropriate financial records and that these are accurate and up-to-date
● Ensuring that government tax filings and remittances are submitted on a timely basis
● Ensuring that payroll and other liabilities are settled in a timely manner
● Ensuring that excess funds and reserves are properly held and invested
● Verifying that donations are handled appropriately and that grants and service delivery contracts are accounted for in accordance with the requirements of funders

● The term of office for a newly elected Treasurer, as with other executive positions, shall be 2 years. The Treasurer may serve for two consecutive 2-year terms, after which he/she must remain off the Board for a 2-year term before running for election again
● A commitment to the organization's mission and strategic directions
● An understanding of, and experience with, good financial management and reporting practices
● A professional accounting designation
● An appreciation of the kind and level of financial information needed by a non-profit Corporation to support decision making
● An ability to commit the time required to fulfill the responsibilities described
