About the Position

Are you interested in food and urban agriculture? Would you like to help develop our new food PODCAST, grow food for local food banks, cook meals with others, or increase awareness of local food in our community?

'Young Urban Growers' is a food group for youth (ages 15-25) in Peel. Each month, we will meet to learn about and discuss local food and urban agriculture topics. Credit towards '40 hours' available for secondary school students.

If you are over 25 years old, consider joining us as a FOOD MENTOR.

We will share knowledge and resources and learn actionable steps on how to make impactful changes in our homes and communities by adopting some simple strategies. Please RSVP at rsingh@ecosource.ca

You will have the following valuable opportunities:
> Enhance your sustainable urban agriculture and social enterprise skills
> Contribute to our PODCAST series and citizen science initiatives
> Learn to cook with local (incl. organic) produce
> Lead educational workshops for the community (plus 'network', build your contacts, connections)
> Share food and knowledge with youth and mentors from Peel
> Secondary school students may earn hours towards their '40 hours' community service graduation requirement
● 'Young Urban Growers' must live in Mississauga, Caledon or Brampton
● Youth 15 to 25 years of age are eligible
● You must have a passion for food, PLUS a willingness to learn!
● Punctuality/reliability required
● Experience with 'social media' welcome (eg. podcasts)
● Commitment for the growing through harvesting season preferred, but not required
All Young Urban Growers will receive mentorship and training throughout the year. Our NEXT MEETING will take place on August 8, 2019, where we will learn about food waste and vermicomposting. You are welcome to join Young Urban Growers at any point in the year.
