Position Description: The principal 'role'for our Event Volunteer is acting as a 'route marshal, in order to guide and assist participants as they navigate and traverse the hiking course.

Goal of Position: Founded in 1990, The Dorothy Ley Hospice is a volunteer-based community service organization offering compassionate care to people living with the challenges of a life-limiting illness or loss. Our programs meet their physical, emotional, spiritual and psycho-social needs, helping them to live life to the fullest. Our services are provided at no cost to the individual thanks to the generosity of our donors and community partners.

Among our annual fundraising events is the 'Hike for Hospice' (Sunday, May 5, 2019, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM), at 220 Sherway Drive, in Etobicoke. This fun-filled event provides a major source of funding to sustain and enhance our facilities and programs. We are in need of 'Event Volunteers' to ensure that participants are assisted at all stages of the event, in order that 'Hike for Hospice' is once again a success.

Training Details: This is a one day event with a brief orientation. This position is particularly suitable for volunteers who prefer 'event volunteering'.

This opportunity is open to all.
Position Qualifications: ● Minimum age - 14
● Friendly, engagingly enthusiastic towards members of the public
● Commitment to assist and 'cheer on' 'Hike for Hospice' participants
● Capacity to stand for extended periods (the event is expected to last 4 hours)
● Willingness to cope with possibly inclement weather (rain, wind, etc.), dressing appropriately
● Punctuality and reliability for the Sunday event
