About the Position

The 'Summer Camp Assistant' typically will assume various 'roles' and carry through a variety of tasks, including:
- Assist in planning daily group activities
- Assist in planning field trips and other field activities pertaining to interest of the group
- Support the learning process of participants, by one-on-one and group attention, as needed
- Promote individual (and group) participation in various activities, plus continue to spark interest and curiosity in the activities that are planned
- Exercise best efforts to ensure that everyone participates and enjoys all aspects of the program
- Be aware of cultural differences and ensure that the rights of all participants are respected, while promoting mutual respect and cooperation among the participants
- Ensure that health & safety protocols are followed (eg. diet, allergies, hygiene, safe use of equipment)
- Perform other related tasks, as requested

+ Gain volunteer hours (secondary school students may earn hours towards their '40 hour' community service graduation requirement)
● Minimum age - 15
● Minimum volunteering commitment - 3 WEEKS (Mon thru Fri, usually 8:30am to 3pm), preferably longer in order to promote program continuity
● Fluency in oral/written English (additional language(s) welcome)
● Prior experience planning/delivering young children's recreational activities is an asset
● Friendly, confident, comfortable in volunteering with young children
● Commitment to 'diversity and inclusiveness' (ready to learn about/from newcomers)
● Capacity to learn, develop worthwhile activities for the summer camp
● Ability to volunteer as part of a team, plus independently with minimal supervision
● Organized, reliable, punctual, respectful of the schedule

PLEASE NOTE: Because this 'role' necessarily involves close contact with young children, a satisfactory 'Police Vulnerable Sector Check' is required
Orientation and training will be provided (to be arranged)
