About the Position
The Journey Neighbourhood Centre The Journey Thrift Store: 24 Nelson Street East, Brampton, Ontario Brampton

Journey Thrift has a two different 'roles' available for volunteers and currently has a need in all areas of the store operations:




  • Cashier - Our volunteer cashiers help customers make purchases, welcome customers into our store, maintain our cash desk area, and answer customer inquiries. All cashier training is provided prior to starting at our cash desk. 

  • Backroom Associate - The backroom volunteers help to accept, sort, process, price, and put out donated items. This role varies day-to-day depending on what is received and what needs to be processed. Backroom volunteers should be able to comfortably lift moderately heavy loads (e.g. a garbage bag full of clothes) and be comfortable interacting with members of the public who come to the store with donations. All training will be provided on-site.



At this time Journey Thrift is only accepting applicants who are at least 16 years of age.

  • MINIMUM AGE for this volunteering opportunity - 16

  • You're able and prepared to commit to 1 to 2 morning or afternoon shifts on a WEEKLY basis for a MINIMUM of 4 to 6 MONTHS (see TIME COMMITMENT, below)

  • You're compassionate and caring about our Vision and Mission

  • Able to get to and from Journey Thrift independently, plus be punctual, responsible, and reliable

  • Proficient in English

  • Willing to learn thrift store procedures and processes (TRAINING will be provided on-site)

  • Able to lift/move moderately heavy loads (e.g. a garbage bag full of clothing; small furniture items such as side tables, etc.)

  • You're aware of the need for excellent customer service for this volunteer engagement (and you're committed to be courteous and accommodating to everyone who comes into JourneyThrift (our customers, donors, and volunteers)
