Goal

Services & Housing in the Province (SHIP) has championed the fundamental right of housing in Ontario for nearly 30 years. As a respected health service and housing support provider, we advocate for Healthy Housing by forming lasting relationships with landlords and developers. We advocate for mental and physical health services through in-house service teams and partnerships with community-based agencies. SHIP is known for our record of identifying gaps in available service provision and directly addressing those needs. 

Located in the heart of  Caledon, Ontario - Peace Ranch is a unique transitional housing complex dedicated to menatl health recovery for individuals living with schizophrenia. This rural environment situated on a 25 acre farm provides access to highly trained staff who pair psychological social rehabilitation proincipals with life skill training and stress management techniques, to succesffully empower positive individual development and psychological wellness. Through facilitation of the day program, individuals are able to assist the community with social recreation opportunities which include on-site animal husbandry, horticulture, art, fitnessand cooking programs. The integrated approach at Peace Ranch promotes inclusivity and all individuals are encouraged to become a part of the process and much like nature, remain open to change.


Description

This volunteer role requires the utilization of 'fix it skills'!

You will be performing small repair jobs around the farm, such as fixing fences, burning brush, building small structures, brainstorming mechanical problems, small engine repair, tractor driving, outdoor plumbing such as irrigation, rainwater collection. We will keep you busy.  Organizing the workshop tools.  Assisting in teaching staff and client "fix-it" activities is an option too.

Qualifications

  • At least basic building/construction skills 
  • Solid oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of, and willingness to comply with, applicable safety standards (incl. appropriate construction gear, handling/installation procedures, and specific safety precautions)
  • Ability to volunteer as part of a team and independently
  • Ability to follow directions (incl. attention to detail) 

Personal Transportation to location is required.
