Goal

Vita Centre is a non-profit charity, serving Peel region, dedicated to providing excellent support, education, and counselling to vulnerable families, including pregnant and parenting youth, with the goal of empowering them to move forward and thrive. We look to achieve a community where families can make a choice for life, even in undesirable circumstances, such that they become established, supported, and accepted, thereby allowing positive outcomes for their child.We are in need of volunteer Delivery Drivers who will help with weekly pick ups from Food Banks Mississauga on Thursdays and delivery of food boxes to our clients on Fridays to support our Supper Connection and Community fridge/Food Pantry programs.  Our 'Supper Connection' program currently embraces a direct outreach and assistance for parents of young children and their families. In addition to the principal focus on strengthening food literacy skills, the program promotes access to healthy foods by making it possible for each program participants to receive a Food Box delivered to their homes.  

Pick ups are ongoing, while food box deliveries are for the 10-week duration of each program series with deliveries in BRAMPTON and MISSISSAUGA, including MALTON.
Description

  • Access to reliable transportation for weekly pick up and delivery of Food Boxes
  • Thursday morning you will pick up pre-ordered boxes of grocery items from Food Banks Mississauga and deliver them to Vita Centre
  • Friday mid-morning, for 10 weeks, you will pick up a maximum of eight (8) Food Boxes from Vita Centre,be briefed about the addresses in Peel region for deliveries that have been assigned to you 
  • Attend at each assigned address, then text or telephone the intended recipient to advise of your arrival/delivery 
  • keep a log of deliveries for  tracking and records

Qualifications

  • Full Class G Ontario Driver's Licence
  • Access to a sanitary, reliable vehicle (with storage capacity) that is insured as required by the Province of Ontario
  • You are able to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 10 lbs. (5 kgs) 
  • Able to take stairs
  • Solid English oral/written communication skills
  • You have a reliable smartphone that will enable you to 'text' or phone recipients about deliveries, plus stay in touch with Vita staff 
  • You're familiar with GPS or Google Maps (or similar apps that will assist you with efficient deliveries)
  • You can commit to the volunteer weekly engagement schedule over the entire program

Time Commitment
This is a Medium Term (4 - 6 months) commitment starting 2025-01-31 AND ending 2025-04-03

Training

MANDATORY: You will be briefed on the procedure for pick up, handling, and delivery of Food Boxes.

SCREENING of applicants will be virtual via tel/email/online interviewing unless otherwise advised.
