Goal

Community Living Mississauga (CLM) is a large nonprofit charitable organization that supports over 3,000 people who have intellectual disabilities. Our vision is that all people will live in a state of dignity and respect and share in all elements of living in a community that is welcoming, accepting and inclusive of all individuals.

Our mission is to provide support to people who have an intellectual disability to ensure their quality of life in the community is meaningfully improved.

Spend 12 weeks doing something meaningful while building a genuine connection with a person who has an intellectual disability and lives independently in our community. Together, you’ll explore shared interests, work toward personal goals, and enjoy time in the community—reducing social isolation along the way.

Description

Once a week from June to August, at a mutually agreeable time, volunteers will meet with a pre-assigned person to enjoy an activity of mutual interest to both parties for 12 weeks. Any costs associated with admission fees will be covered.  Meetings and activities are expected to last 1-2 hours and may take place on weekdays, weeknights, or weekends. Volunteers will be introduced to their respective matches before the start of the 12-week engagement. Some things you can anticipate doing with your match include going out for coffee, bowling, attending a sporting event or a community play, going for a walk in the park, attending a special event in etc.

You will enjoy weekly, ongoing support from Community Living Mississauga employees when needed, and you will provide brief weekly reports.
