Goal

Weekly programs are held throughout the community providing participants with interesting and fun activities. The programs promote and support health, wellness, and independent living. Programs feature an exercise component, creative activities, discussion groups, guest speakers, seasonal parties and special luncheons. Participants have an opportunity to socialize and interact with friends and neighbours. Volunteers support the programs by coming early and setting up, preparing snacks and refreshments, assisting the seniors with activities and crafts and helping with clean up.

Volunteers are needed at the following locations:

  • Valleywood - 20 Snelcrest - Tuesdays from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm
  • Riverview - 121 Glasgow Rd - Tuesdays 12:30 to 3:00 pm
  • Snelgrove - 12065 Hurontario St - Thursdays 12:30 - 3:00 pm (would welcome addition language skills: Arabic, Punjabi, etc)
  • Stationview - 25 Stationview Place - Fridays 12:30 to 3:00 pm

    Description

    Position Summary:

    • Assist the Program Facilitator running program activities and food preparation
    • Treat clients with respect and sincerity
    • Notify the Program Facilitator regarding planned absences
    • Maintain client privacy and confidentiality as per CMOW’s policies and signed agreement
    • Maintain CMOW’s Code of Conduct, Code of Ethics, and Conflict of Interest standards as per CMOW policies and signed agreement

    Sample Activities:

    Serving snacks/lunch to clients, cleaning up after luncheons, set up for guest speakers, helping with crafts, taking attendance, helping facilitate card games or bingo.

    With the support of volunteers, the Social Wellness team is able to facilitate senior programs across Caledon and Orangeville to help participants connect & engage within their community with fun activities, supporting a healthy and active lifestyle, minimizing isolation.


    Qualifications

    All Caledon Meals on Wheels volunteers are required to complete our onboarding process including a Criminal / Vulnerable Sector Check. Volunteers must have transportation to get to and from the programs (other than programs on the Caledon/Brampton border, there is no reliable public transporation in Caledon).

    This is a Long Term (More than 6 months) commitment
