Goal

Gentle Fitness Volunteer

Partners Community Health (PCH) is a not-for-profit, charitable organization focused on bringing healthcare services together around the needs of people living in Mississauga and West Toronto. PCH manages Wellbrook Place, two state-of-the-art Long Term Care homes (Wellbrook Place East and Wellbrook Place West) and Seniors’ Hub at 2180 Speakman Drive in Mississauga. The homes have a combined 632 beds and are a part of PCH’s larger strategy that introduces innovative and inclusive programs and services and new models of care delivery.

Purpose:

Active living through participation in exercise, sports and games in an inclusive setting promotes social, mental and emotional wellbeing. Some positive outcomes our residents will have from participating include increased or maintained appetite, increased ability to sleep without the help of medication, decreased fatigue and an improved self-image. Share your love of living an active lifestyle at Wellbrook Place.

Fitness Volunteers plan, organize and facilitate exercise, sports and active games for Wellbrook Place residents.


Description

Responsibilities:

  • Set up/take down of program area;
  • Provide list of equipment needed; ensure equipment is sanitized before and after session;
  • Develop a fun exercise program that includes warm-up and cool down periods, demonstrate movements; exercise with music is preferred;
  • Assist and encourage resident participation; Answer questions, as needed;
  • Interact and socialize with residents;
  • Encourage residents to lead individual exercises;
  • Document attendance and participation of each resident;
  • Notify supervisor of any needed items, concerns with attendees, or progress you noted following each session;
  • Participate positively; follow policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older;
  • Fitness instructor background or working towards fitness instructor certification preferred;
  • Previous experience in a palliative, long term care or community care setting, or a recreational setting, an asset;
  • Sound judgement, flexibility and ability to work as part of a team;
  • Have a motivating and encouraging demeanor;
  • Have patience, a positive attitude and enjoy spending time with older people;

Time Commitment
This is a Medium Term (4 - 6 months) commitment starting 2024-07-10
Shifts are available Anytime

Available Shifts:

Shifts will be 1.5 hours in length and will be scheduled in agreement with the Programs Director. Please speak to the Volunteer Coordinator regarding your weekly availability.

  • AODA training
