Goal

Vita Centre is dedicated to providing excellent support, education and counselling to vulnerable families, including pregnant and parenting youth, with the goal of empowering them to move forward and thrive. 'Child-Minding Volunteer' is a part-time volunteer position that is supervised by the Volunteer Coordinator. The Child Minding Volunteer will provide care for the children while their parents attend programming, thus making our programs more accessible to all families.


Description

We welcome individuals to commence volunteering starting May 21, 2024

Attend to children and perform daily child care duties:

  • Observe children's interaction to ensure safety and hygiene needs are met
  • Report immediately any concerns to onsite supervisor
  • Guide and assist children in playing and interacting with other each other
  • Inform parents when children need to have a diaper change or use the washroom
  • Inform parents when children indicate that they are hungry
  • Clean up and put away toys and other program materials at the end of the shift

Qualifications

  • Experienced or familiar with infants and toddlers (ages 0-6) needs 
  • Friendly, engaging, confident in meeting those needs
  • MINIMUM 6 MONTH commitment
  • Valid 'Police Vulnerable Sector Check' (dated within the past 6 months) OR Check to be obtained prior to acceptance as a volunteer
  • Confirmation of up to date immunizations (including Covid-19 vaccinations) 
  • Ability to follow directions by Vita Centre staff, and volunteer independently in a responsible manner

Time Commitment
This is a Medium Term (4 - 6 months) commitment starting 2024-05-20 AND ending 2024-08-09
Shifts are available on the following days
 - Tuesday Morning, Tuesday Afternoon, Wednesday Morning, Wednesday Afternoon, Thursday Morning, Thursday Afternoon, Friday Morning, Friday Afternoon

A 4 - 6 months commitment is required for this role. Programs will be in Mississauga and Brampton at venues TBD and will be on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9am to 11am and 11:30am to 1:30pm

 


Training

Orientation / Training-on-the-job / Training ongoing . Each successful applicant will go through an orientation. Training will take place on the job and will be ongoing.
