Position: 1892 - Hospice In Home Volunteer (Fluent in English, Polish, Mandarin, etc.)

Ideal for: Individual, Co-Op Placements, Newcomers, Older Adults
When assigned to an individual/family, duties may include:
- Providing support and companionship to the individual who is palliative and/or a family member
- Providing respite (a break) for the caregiver
- Providing care/comfort measures such as complementary therapies - Reiki, TT, aromatherapy (free training for volunteers who are interested in learning)
- Maintain monthly contact with the Hospice office - submit a monthly report

*** ESPECIALLY LOOKING FOR THOSE AVAILABLE DURING THE DAY, MONDAY TO FRIDAY, who are English speaking, as well as volunteers fluent in Polish, Tamil, Cantonese, Mandarin, Tagalog, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Urdu, etc.

Our 'In Home Volunteer' provides companionship to those who have a life limiting illness, by providing practical assistance, social, emotional, and spiritual support.

Position Qualifications
● Minimum ONE YEAR volunteer engagement/commitment
● Solid oral English language skills (Fluency in another language is especially welcome - see 'Description', above)
● Screening Interview
● References Required - 1 written and 1 phone
● Police Vulnerable Sector Check' required
● Attendance for 30 hours of training (see 'Training', below under orientation/training details, for specific dates/times)
● Adherence to policies and procedures of the Hospice
● Commitment to maintain privacy/confidentiality

A ONE YEAR commitment is requested. We ask for 2 to 4 hours per week (preferably during daytime)

Orientation - 30-hour Hospice Volunteer Training Sessions
Scheduled training - Various scheduled training dates
Training sessions for Winter 2020 (2 different locations & times):
Mississauga: Tuesdays 9:30 am to 12:30 pm starting January 21, 2020 to March 24, 2020
Etobicoke: Saturdays 9 am to 4:30 pm starting February 1 to March 7, 2020
