Volunteer MBC Board Members provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance on behalf of its members. While day-to-day operations are led by the Executive Director, the Board-Executive Director relationship is a partnership, and the appropriate involvement of the Board is both critical and expected. More particularly, Members:
> Provide leadership by setting the values, vision, and mission of Volunteer MBC through strategic planning and development designed to meet community volunteering needs
> Follow policies and procedures, with periodic reviews, that govern Volunteer MBC, reflect its values, and guide its decisions
> Provide oversight to ensure sound financial and risk management (including review and approval of budgets and annual audit reports, adherence to legal and fiduciary obligations)
> Are key representatives of Volunteer MBC to its stakeholders, sharing a commitment to diversity and inclusiveness within the Board of Directors that in turn reflects and embraces the communities that we serve
> Consider Volunteer MBC a philanthropic priority and make an annual gift that is commensurate with their capacity so that Volunteer MBC can credibly solicit contributions from foundations, corporations, and individuals, based on demonstrating 100% Board commitment

We seek dynamic, committed local leaders in the Peel region volunteer sector to join our Board of Directors as a Member.

Volunteer MBC Board Members provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance on behalf of its member organizations. The Board supports Volunteer MBC in increasing awareness of its mission and services that provide meaningful volunteerism, and best practices through learning and development, within the municipalities of Mississauga, Brampton, and Caledon.

Position Qualifications
● PASSIONATE about volunteerism and COMMITTED to Volunteer MBC's vision, mission, and strategic goals
● Ready, willing, able to engage in and promote a climate of 'diversity and inclusiveness'
● Prior experience in Board of Directors leadership roles or other community leadership
● MINIMUM 2 year commitment (as required by our by-laws)
● Governance/board experience, professional experience, education and/or training in ONE of these areas: social services, community development, fundraising, legal, accounting, leadership, HR, business/project management, volunteer management/engagement (strategic planning is a further asset)
● Understanding of the not-for-profit sector

FAIRLY FLEXIBLE: 5 to 8 hours per month. Approximately ONE (1) board meeting plus board/committee work between meetings. (We hold a minimum of 6 board meetings a year).

Attendance at Volunteer MBC's special events and May AGM

As part of the screening process, orientation to Volunteer MBC and the role of its Board will be provided during interviews. For successful candidates Board Members will welcome you and provide ongoing support.
