Position: 2635 - Gala Auction Lead Volunteer

Description
● Well in advance of the Gala date, bring together a team of volunteers to organize and conduct a 'silent auction' and a 'live auction'
● With the Gala committee, establish agreed upon auction procedures
● In cooperation with staff and volunteers who canvass for, and collect, donated items, make a running inventory, with appropriate 'posters', 'pricing', and other features that identify/promote the items
● Assign 'lot numbers' and print 'bidding sheets'
● Train the team on auction procedures that will be used during the Gala
● Assist in establishing methods of payment for auctioned items
● With the Gala committee, appoint an auctioneer for the 'live auction'
● Account for auction proceeds, remit, and deliver a written report (that includes an evaluation of results/performance/success)

Goal
Victory House Association of Dufferin Caledon is the inspired vision of a group of people in the Dufferin Caledon area. As a not-for-profit community service organization, we provide a safe, temporary home for healing in situations of domestic abuse, offering support and training for women and their children in times of need.

Our Annual Gala will take place at the Royal Ambassador Banquet Hall (see 'Map', below) on November 1, 2019, and it's never too early to bring a committee together to engage in preliminary event planning. An important part of the committee is our 'Gala Auction Lead Volunteer', who will be charged with coordinating teams of volunteers to carry out various vital functions before, during, and after the Gala.

Bearing the above in mind, we seek an experienced volunteer team leader to organize our 'silent and live auctions', a key fundraiser at the Gala.

Position Qualifications
● Length of volunteering commitment - about 6 MONTHS (until mid-November)
● Friendly, outgoing, confident in interactions with the public
● Understanding of, plus commitment to, Victory House's mission and goals (including those associated with the Gala)
● Prior event planning experience is a requested (involvement in charity auctions preferred)
● Solid oral/written English communication skills
● Proficiency with computers (esp. Excel software, and related applications)
● Organized, committed to meet deadlines, with attention to detail

Gala committee and volunteer teams will meet monthly initially, keep updated online, and weekly (or more frequently), as the Gala date nears.

In this role, attendance at the Gala is a mandatory requirement, as well.

Training
Orientation to Victory House and an outline of the fundraising Gala will be provided during the screening process.
