Position: 2738 - 'Cafe Forum' - Food Service Volunteer [NEW]

The 'role' includes:
- Taking/monitoring attendance of building residents (their familities/friends)
- Greet those who come to 'rotary room' where the Cafe is located; say goodbye as they leave
- Prior to opening, attend to replenishing supplies and beverage setup, with food
- Obtain the cash box and log book, count the 'float' (opening balance)
- Conducting sales, with table service where necessary
- Ongoing observation for any health/safety issues, plus tidy up along the way
- Generally ensure that participants experience excellent 'customer service', and that they're enjoying themselves through beneficial socialization
- Winding up the Cafe at NOON, or earlier, depending upon attendance
- Restore the room, put away food equipment/supplies, secure the cash boc/log, submit daily and other reports to the Recreation/Volunteer Coordinator

MICBA (Mississauga Italian Canadian Benevolent Association) Forum Italia Community Services provides supportive services to seniors in residential not-for-profit housing at 155 & 195 Forum Drive (Mississauga), and volunteers are needed for programs in both buildings. We are the service provider that operates inside the housing buildings, and the wide variety of programs and associated seniors support initiatives would not be possible without a capable and dedicated team of volunteers, some veterans, many new. Thank you!

Our newest program relates to food service: 'Cafe Forum' (155 Forum Drive) a morning opportunity for our seniors (and their families and friends) to socialize in a congenial atmosphere, accomplished by offering beverages (mainly coffee) and light snacks (eg. baked goods). We believe in that this type of program genuinely promotes health & wellness (and respected studies support our belief), such that we offer it weekday and weekend mornings.

Position Qualifications
● Able to commit to volunteering for AT LEAST 60 HOURS overall
● Solid oral/written English communication skills (fluency in Italian is a welcome bonus)
● Friendly, outgoing, conversational with older adults
● Able to deliver quality 'food service' in a café setting, including appropriate preparation, set up, clean up
● Committed to health and safety practices, especially those that pertain to food handling ('Food Handling' certification welcome)
● Prepared to volunteer as part of a team and independently
● Punctual and reliable

Orientation about the 'Cafe Forum' program and Training appropriate to the tasks to be undertaken will be provided to successful applicants.
