Goal

Results Canada is a grassroots advocacy organization that believes in empowering everyday people to use their voices to generate the political will to end extreme poverty. We combine the voices of our volunteers with strategic areas of focus to leverage resources for programs and improved policies that give people living in poverty the health, education and opportunity they need to thrive. Whether it’s writing letters to the editor (LTEs), using social media, or engaging with parliamentarians, our passionate volunteers positively impact people living in low-and middle-income countries.If you want to become an effective advocate and are committed to take action on a monthly basis, join us! We have groups in Brampton and Mississauga looking for volunteers, but we would be equally happy to find a group leader to start a new group in Caledon (see our 'group leader' volunteering opportunity: https://volunteermbc.org/report.php?ListType=VolunteerPositionsAll&ID=2893).


Description

As a Volunteer Advocate, you will enjoy learning effective, meaningful advocacy, plus the opportunity to define collaborate with likeminded individuals. Specifically, you will join other group members on the current campaign. Examples of initiatives and task include (but not limited to):

  • engaging with your Member of Parliament by writing or meeting with them (in person or virtually, the latter ONLY during COVID-19)
  • writing letters to the editor (LTE)
  • organizing events ('virtual' or 'in person', after COVID-19 eases sufficiently)
  • supporting the logistics of the group
  • being active on 'social media'
  • fundraising

Qualifications

  • MINIMUM AGE - 15
  • Passionate about ending poverty in low and middle income countries
  • Committed to take action on a monthly basis for at least 6 MONTHS (see TIME COMMITMENT, below)
  • Reliable access to the Internet and devices/software suitable for this 'role' (ie. video conferencing)
  • Able to go out of your comfort zone, express your passion by creating change
  • Respect for diversity and commitment to creating an environment that values inclusiveness and respect

Time Commitment
This is a Long Term (More than 6 months) commitment
Shifts are available Anytime

FLEXIBLE: Your volunteer hours will include scheduled blocks of time (your group's monthly meeting, occasional webinars, other calls), but the majority will be on your own schedule (reading the monthly campaign, planning, researching, taking action, reporting back, etc).

ORIENTATION: The first step for a prospective volunteer is to APPLY, then participate in our virtual/online INFORMATION SESSION (see DESCRIPTION, above)
