Goal

We are looking for a a Volunteer Assistant/Basketball Coach to assist with our programming and activities. 


Description

You don't need a sports background to volunteer with Caledon Special Olympics. All you need is enthusiasm for helping empower people with intellectual disabilities through sport. We have many volunteer positions. Volunteers support our athletic programs and coaching, AND our fundraisers and other activities within the local community.

  • Volunteers have the opportunity to learn to interact and teach individuals with Intellectual Disibilities and watch them grow as they learn to master new skills. 
  • Volunteers will build friendships, socialize with peers and learn to lead others.
  • Volunteers will also have the opportunity to travel to Provincial, National and World games gaining new skills, knowledge and learning about other cultures as they support our athletes. 


Qualifications

All potential volunteers 18 years of age and over require a Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check to be eligible to register with Special Olympics Ontario.  An online registration, and two referrences are also required for registration.

Time Commitment
This is a Medium Term (4 - 6 months) commitment starting 2024-09-26 AND ending 2025-04-24
Shifts are available on the following days
 - Thursday Evening

Please note we are running our basketball practices every Thursday (starting September 26, 2024) from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in Bolton. Once approved; the volunteer will be contacted regarding the location of the practices (school in Bolton). 


Training

Safe Sport Training Course is mandatory for all persons wishing to volunteer with Special Olympics. Other courses are offered for sport specific training and if individuals wish to attend games above community level.
