Goal

Volunteer MBC are leaders in exemplifying and advocating diversity, equity, and inclusion in our local communities. We recognize the enormous advantage that a diverse Board of Directors and its supporting committees provide, and to achieve balance, we invite individuals in Peel and surrounding areas with an established background in Financial and Business Administration to apply to join us as a members of the Finance and Audit Committee.

Main Purpose:

Support Board’s Fiduciary Responsibilities

The Board of Directors support the efforts of Volunteer MBC in increasing awareness of the role and services it has to offer to improve lives of residents through volunteerism. The Board and its supporting committees provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance on behalf of the organization. While day-to-day operations are led by the Executive Director and senior staff, the Board-Executive Director relationship is a partnership, and the involvement of the Board via the appropriate committee and in general meetings is both critical and expected. The Treasurer assumes the Chair role of the Finance and Audit Committee. The committee members, assist financial matters of Volunteer MBC by best practices and based on governing documents and legal requirements. With support of the Finance and Audit Committee, the Treasurer will ensure that effective financial measures, controls and- processes are - implemented, appropriate to the operation of Volunteer MBC. 


Description

  • This opportunity is best suited for an individual who is passionate about Volunteer MBC’s work and actively supports the delivery of Volunteer MBC’s mission while sustaining the financial health of the organization.
  • Education or work experience in accounting/finance (C.P.A designation or equivalent will be an asset to have)
  • Understanding of financial accounting for non-profit organizations
  • Professional experience, education and/or training in one of these areas: community development, fundraising, strategic planning is beneficial.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well independently and with a team.
  • Personal commitment to devote the time necessary to perform the responsibilities.
  • Must have a passion for volunteering.
  • Ready, willing, able to engage in and promote a climate of 'diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Qualifications

  • Support the overall financial performance of Volunteer MBC and monitor financial status as it relates to its mission, objectives, core values and reputation.
  • Participate in the preparation, and recommendation of the annual budget and monitor the financial performance of Volunteer MBC in relation to it
  • Help establish, review, and monitor financial policies.
  • Assist in preparing and reviewing financial statement packages on a timely basis for Board review.
  • Review Cash Flow, and inform and advise the Board on risk management and financial matters as requested.
  • Review unbudgeted operating expenditures and all capital expenditures.
  • Review and recommend investments in line with investment policies to the Board's proposed changes to banking or borrowing.
  • Review and recommend for approval all other major financial policy matters.
  • Review commitments related to capital spending and the related fundraising requirements and report thereon to the Board.
  • Develop and approve the Audit Plan in advance of each year’s external audit including the selection of independent auditors and review of audit results.
  • Review and recommend approval by the Board of the annual financial statements.
  • Support the development of accounting policies and review compliance with legal and regulatory matters.

Training

Orientation to Volunteer MBC will be provided during onboarding and ongoing.


  • Opportunity to participate in relevant trainings will be provided.

  • 3-4 hours of committee work per month/ when required.

  • Attendance to meetings every 2 months is expected.
