Goal

For 20 years, 'Relay For Life' has been the Canadian Cancer Society's signature fundraising event. 'Relay' is an event like no other, where you join your family, friends, co-workers, and neighbours to celebrate life and give hope to those living with cancer.Impact that your volunteering leadership will make in this role:In your role of Community Engagement Chair, you will support the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) in raising funds for life-saving cancer research and support services so that no Canadian faces cancer alone. Your strong leadership skills will direct the sub-committee towards reaching revenue goals and increasing engagement by a variety of sources for financial (and 'Gifts in kind' - GIK) support (stakeholders, sponsors, donors both corporate and personal, event participants) from your local community. Description

What's involved:By utilizing your personal and professional networks, you will work collaboratively with your Canadian Cancer Society staff partner and 'Relay For Life' Event Experience Chair to build a promotion and team recruitment strategy for 'Relay For Life'. The 'Community Engagement Chair' will focus on the following areas:- Recruitment of participants- Retention of participants- Cancer Survivor engagement- Marketing and promotions - Sponsorship and product donation (GIK)- Public (donor) awareness and solicitationSpecifics:- Volunteer collaboratively with your CCS staff partner and subcommittee to plan and lead all aspects of community engagement- Prospect and establish new relationships with volunteers, organizations and community groups- Volunteer collaboratively with the Event Experience Chair to plan and execute community recruitment events, such as: lunch and learns, team captain rallies and 'Relay' reunions- Contact team captains, participants and sponsors from past events and encourage them to get involved in 'Relay For Life' 2019- Together with your CCS staff partner, monitor and evaluate the subcommittee's progress in achieving recruitment targets and revenue goals- Create relationships with local survivor groups and past survivor participants- Strengthen relationships with existing sponsors and attract new sponsors to offset event expenses - Attend community events and festivals to serve as an ambassador for the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) and 'Relay For Life' with the objective of team and participant recruitment- Provide weekly updates to committee members and staff partners- Lead committee meetings together with the Event Experience Chair and CCS Staff partner- Promote online registration, fundraising, and other online featuresPLEASE APPLY AT THE EARLIEST OPPORTUNITY. EVENT PLANNING/PARTICIPANT RECRUITMENT: Monthly, plus bi-weekly committee meetings, as scheduledFLEXIBLE: You will volunteer closely with the Planning Committee and with 'Community Engagement' volunteers, available to supervise and oversee tasks, projects, deadlines, while 'leading the way'.
