Goal

To improve access for adults and families who need transportation assistance to and from cancer-related appointments, including hospital appointments, supportive care and follow-up appointments.


Description

Volunteer drivers pick-up clients from their homes, bring them to their cancer related appointment, and bring them back to their home. Rides are given MONDAY-FRIDAY between 8am and 5pm. Shifts are either in the morning or afternoon, or a full day, depending on your availability. We pick up clients in Peel region, Orangeville, Georgetown, and Bolton/Caledon, as well as drive to hospitals in the Peel region, Newmarket, and downtown Toronto; based on your level of comfort with driving, you tell us where you prefer to drive!

Qualifications

● Friendly, compassionate and sensitive to issues facing people living with cancer● Valid G driver's licence with 3 or fewer demerit points and an acceptable driving record● Access to a well maintained, reliable 100% smoke free vehicle● Minimum $1 Million 3rd party liability insurance on vehicle● Completion of a criminal reference check within acceptable standards● You enjoy driving and you are a regular driver in your community in Peel region● Punctual in keeping appointments, and able to abide by an agreed schedule (that may involve being called on short notice)

This is a Long Term (More than 6 months) commitment starting 2020-05-01
Shifts are available on the following days
 - Monday Morning, Monday Afternoon, Tuesday Morning, Tuesday Afternoon, Wednesday Morning, Wednesday Afternoon, Thursday Morning, Thursday Afternoon, Friday Morning, Friday Afternoon

FLEXIBLE: Scheduling to be worked out individually, subject to demand of frequency of need by local CCS clientsSERVICE operates WEEKDAYS (not on weekends) between 8:00 AM & 5:00 PMSHIFTS: Morning or Afternoon, or Full Day (your option)


Training

SCHEDULED Orientation/classroom/virtual: Training-on-the-job ; Training on-going
PLUS 'Buddy Ride': Learn by being with one of our Volunteer Drivers on a typical day on the road
